What is MTSS?
A Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is a systemic, continuous-improvement framework in which data-based problem solving and decision-making is practiced across all levels of the educational system for supporting students. The framework of MTSS is a “way of doing business,” which utilizes high-quality evidence-based instruction, intervention, and assessment practices to ensure that every student receives the appropriate level of support to be successful. A Multi-Tiered System of Supports helps schools and districts to organize resources through alignment of academic standards and behavioral expectations, implemented with fidelity and sustained over time, in order to enable every child to successfully reach his/her fullest potential.
MTSS is a multi-level approach to providing supports and interventions to students who are struggling. MTSS is a means to intervene early, using academic or behavioral supports and intensive interventions within the general education setting. Interventions may be academic or behavior related. The process is divided into three tiers
What is PBIS?
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports is a process for creating school environments that are more predictable and effective for achieving academic and social goals. A key strategy of the PBIS process is prevention. Through instruction, comprehension and regular practice, all teachers and staff members will use a consistent set of behavior expectations and rules. When some students do not respond to teaching of the behavioral rules, we will view it as an opportunity for Reteaching. .
What About Parents?
Parents are an important part of PBIS implementation. We encourage parents to use the same expectations and rules that the school teachers. This common language creates consistency and unified support for expected student behavior. There are several things that you can do as a parent:
· Review the PBIS behavior expectations( Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Safe)
· Ask your child how to use the PBIS expectations of ways that he or she can use these expectations to help them learn and participate in school
· Discuss ways that these expectations can be used at home and in the community .
